Tulsa Community College fosters diversity and inclusion throughout the institution as reflected in the 2011-2014 Strategic Plan. A section of the plan calls for the College to increase the recruitment, retention and development of talented employees reflective of its diverse community.
The commitment further extends to the operations of the Diversity Council, which works to bridge the gaps among students, faculty and staff of all cultures and ethnicities. The council’s mission is to promote an increased awareness of and a shared commitment to inclusiveness and diversity throughout the learning-centered environment at TCC. The council represents the multiple cultures within the TCC community and envisions a College climate where equity is assured in all facets of the academic endeavor, including teaching and learning, enrollment and employment, and the allocation of resources.
The College has established several targeted efforts to reach underserved and underrepresented populations, including the Day of Vision College Preparation Enrichment Program, Hispanic Student Luncheon and College Career Fair, TCC/NAACP Youth Helping Youth Conference, and the TCC Education Outreach Center.
TCC was named a 2013 Mosaic Top 20 award recipient for its commitment to an inclusive workforce culture. The award was presented at the Tulsa Regional Chamber’s inaugural Economic Inclusion Forum. TCC was named a Mosaic Top 20 as a result of a workplace diversity study completed by more than 100 businesses and organizations.
The designation helps support the work done each day at TCC in serving underserved and underrepresented populations in higher education through our outreach programs; addressing diversity, equity and inclusion in our environment through a Diversity Council; and developing partnerships with community, ethnic, and cultural associations at all levels.
