The Big Read: Life After Trauma in The Shawl and Beyond
During this special Lunch & Learn session, students will learn about PTSD (Post Traumatic Stress Disorder) and coping with tragedy. This topic will be presented in connection with a discussion of the short story The Shawl by Cynthia Ozick. This two-part short story follows three women on a forced march to a concentration camp during World War II, then later the continued story of one woman’s life in America after surviving the camp. Attendees will receive a copy of the book. The Big Read is a program of the National Education Association and is sponsored locally by Northeastern State University Broken Arrow.
