Is it just a dream or a viable career? Tulsa Community College’s Launch program takes entrepreneurs with an idea through the critical steps of starting a start up in 16 weeks. The results are the groundwork to launch their business and relationships with some of Tulsa’s most well known business startup leaders. The non-credit startup program is accepting applications now through Jan. 13 for the next session.
Individuals with an idea for a new business can submit them online a twww.launchyourejourney.com. Applicants will be evaluated, invited for interviews, and 18 will be invited to participate in the next session of Launch.
Successful graduates of TCC’s Launch program for entrepreneurs, like Sharon Baker and Cathy Fox, are busy advancing their businesses. Baker's idea for a cat friendly vet clinic in Owasso led to the opening of a full-service, feline veterinary hospital this fall providing comprehensive medical, surgical and dental care to cats.
Fox’s idea for small gift items to mail in greeting cards became Enclosables, a concept that recently won her $2,500 in the 2011 SpiritBank/Tulsa Community College Entrepreneurial Spirit Award competition.
Launch takes a classroom-free approach to show aspiring entrepreneurs how to take their startup concept to operating business in 16 weeks. Businesses that have been in operation less than one year can also benefit from Launch.
The program utilizes local business leaders and entrepreneurs as “thought leaders” or mentors to guide the Launch participants through critical steps required to take ideas to the marketplace. Participants meet in the community with graphic artists, lawyers, bankers, and other vendors needed in the startup process.
Sample Launch sessions include: Building Your Business Model; Understanding Your Market Through Research; Intellectual Property; and, Building Your Revenue Model.
Free informational sessions will be held on TCC campuses Dec. 6 and 13, Jan. 5 and 10. For a full list of session locations go to the news section at www.launchyourejourney.com or call 918-595-7723.
