Class Selection Criteria
All students who apply to the Medical Assistant program before May 1 each year will be ranked according to an academic formula which includes:
- College GPA of 2.5 or high school GPA of 2.5 if less than 12 college hours have been completed and/or ACT of 19 or better, or completing the COMPASS test.
- Prerequisite general education classes include ALDH 1323 Medical Terminology, BIOL 1314 Human Anatomy and Physiology, proficient keyboarding skills of 30 words per minute or take BUSN Keyboarding I, proficient computer skills or take CSCI 1203 Computer Concepts and Applications, CSCI 2013 Word 2007, completed with a grade of "C" or better.
Proficient keyboarding and computer skills for each applicant must be tested to confirm, which if any, of the three courses are necessary.
To schedule a keyboarding and computer skills proficiency test contact Kathy Stotts at 918.595.7393. Any potential MA students should receive advisement by the MA Program Director, Julie Wood, prior to application to the program and enrollment in the prerequisite courses. Prerequisite courses must be completed prior to students being accepted into the MA program and being permitted to enroll in the medical assistant courses.
