Education and Outreach
Signature Symphony at TCC has several ongoing educational programs in the area. A recent survey of our regular players revealed that through our players, we reach 550 students through private lessons and more than 3,600 students in the public schools. Signature Symphony's mission is deeply rooted in reaching, inspiring and training student musicians.
As part of this outreach, Signature Symphony at TCC piloted a project called Higher Scale in Tulsa Public Schools in fall of 2000. This program is a hiring partnership between TPS and the Signature Symphony at TCC. The goals of this program are to establish string programs where none exist and maintain consistency in the quality of string instruction throughout the TPS district. A student remaining active in the strings program throughout his/her third, fourth and fifth grade year experiences close to 200 music lessons.
Signature Symphony also hold "Look Ins" for groups of students to attend. This is usually done an hour before rehearsal that begins at 7:30. There is time for questions and answers from the conductor and from the musicians. Since we have the finalists for the conductor/artistic director, each one will facilitate a Look In:
Thursday, September 15, 2014 (Timothy Verville)
Thursday, October 23, 2014 (Andre Franco)
Thursday, January 22, 2015 (Michael Rossi)
In addition, Signature Symphony at TCC holds their TulsaFest each year. This annual two-week music festival for middle and high school students in orchestra, band, jazz and vocal music provides opportunities for developing musicians to learn from professionals. Student performers present two featured concerts during the two-week festival; Signature Symphony at TCC players act as directors, coaches and mentors during the festival.
