Williams Signature Classics Concerts

Dvorak and Crieg   September 27, 2014   7:30 p.m
.
Dvorak created music that came from and appealed to the heart.  His 8th symphony follows his own Slavic heritage and inspired composers who followed. Also in this concert, the Crieg Piano Concerto is considered by some as the brightest star among the piano concerti repertoire.
Conducted by Timothy Verville

Rodrigo and Tchaikovsky   October 25, 2014    7:30 p.m.

The Concierto de Aranjuez is one of Rodrigo's first compositions and immediately established him as one of the most significant Spanish composers of the 20th century.  Similarly, Tchaikovsky's Symphony No. 4 established him as Russia's greatest symphonist and is recognized as one of his personal favorites.
Conducted by Andres Franco

Verdi, Shostakovich and Tchaikovsky   January 25, 2015   7:30 p.m.

Forces of fate resonate in this concert, ranging from Verdi's La Forza del Destino to the barrenness of Soviet Russia captured in the 2nd Cello Concerto from Dmitri Shastakovich, considered the star of Russia's composers.  The evening concludes with Tchaikovsky's 5th Symphony, the Symphony of Fate.
Conducted by Michael Rossi

Love Songs    February 14, 2015   7:30 p.m

Valentine's Day can only bring you music of love.  From the tragic love in The Flying Dutchman and Romeo and Juliet, to the music of Borodin's Prince Igor - a theme of which became a long song hit on Broadway 65 years later, this promises to be a night in which love abounds.
Conducted by Rick Wagner, guest conductor

Verdi Requiem-The Defiant Requiem   April 18, 2015   7:30 p.m.

First performed by Signature Symphony in 2011, the power of this masterful program may be Murry Sidlin's greatest work.  Intrigued by the story and the nagging question of why a group of Jewish prisoners would learn and sing the Verdi Requiem (a Catholic Mass), Maestro Sidlin personally undertook to research the story and find any surviving members of the chorus.  His passion and commitment to honoring these survivors, and all victims of Terezin, led to the creation of The Defiant Requiem.
Conducted by Murry Sidlin
