I can't find my class under My Courses?

There are two possible reasons for this:

  1. Did you allow 24 hours from when you enrolled with the college?  Blackboard receives it's data from the student registration system overnight when server activity is likely to be minimal.

  2. Default access for all courses on Blackboard is set to 'unavailable' and your instructor will have to make the course available before it will show up under My Courses.  Instructors  may not make their course available until the first day of class as published in the course schedule.

To verify your course enrollment, check the Student Web (https://sis.tulsacc.edu)

Where do I get my Textbooks for Internet courses?

Internet Course books are available at the Northeast Campus Bookstore. (directions to Northeast Campus) You may also purchase internet books online at the Online Bookstore

There are several reasons why Internet books are available only at one campus bookstore.. First of all, Internet faculty send their requisitions to the NE campus bookstore. By purchasing there, you will get the correct textbook, and there will be enough books for all enrolled students.

Secondly, some Internet course require "Student Access Keys" which are included with the text book purchase. These keys may not be included in text books found at other campus bookstores.

Are the Internet courses self-paced?

Each Instructor determines how to structure his/her course.  Some courses are self-paced requiring only that you complete all assignments by the end of the semester while others have deadlines and due dates for assignments throughout the semester.  Please check your syllabus or email your instructor when in doubt about how the course is structured.

Can I start/finish an Internet course anytime?

All courses have a set period of time to complete the course - usually during the semester in which you are enrolled.  Please check the academic schedule to see your specific course start and end dates .

How often will I have to come to campus?

This will vary from course to course.  Many Internet courses offered via Distance Learning have no on-campus requirements; some only require campus visits for exams and possibly an on-campus orientation.  You should check the syllabus available on the course website for any on-campus requirements.

Which web browser should I use?

We highly recommend Microsoft's Internet Explorer version 7 since it is most compatible with our course web server and integrates with many of the file formats used by instructors such as Word, Excel and PowerPoint.  We also recommend that you use an Internet service provider that allows you complete access to the internet.  Accessing online courses from behind corporate firewalls or through limited providers such as AOL has been problematic for many of our students.  When in doubt, check with your internet service provider to see if there are any restrictions for certain types of data (or ports) when using their service.
