PLEASE NOTE: Specific course requirements are included within the course syllabus and will supersede these general course requirements.

 
TCC Internet Classes Require:
  •  Internet access
  •  A valid MyTCC email account
  •  Internet Explorer 6 or greater (available free on the Microsoft site) The browser MUST have 128 bit encryption.
  •  intermediate Internet skills
  •  intermediate word processing skills
Recommended Hardware
Pentium III computer or higher Macintosh running OS X
  •  1 Ghz
  •  512 mb RAM

Students may enroll in an Internet course and use TCC’s on-campus computer labs to access the course. Pending each campus lab’s hours of operation, computers are available on a first-come, first-served basis
 
Internet Access
  •  Modem: 56 kps (minimal requirement - may encounter some problems)
  •  Broadband recommended for online courses.
  •  Broadband required for courses with streaming video (DSL, Cable)
Recommended Software
  •  Windows 98/2000/XP/Vista or Mac OS X operating system
  •  Internet Explorer 6 or greater  (Internet Explorer available free on the Microsoft site) The browser MUST have 128 bit encryption.
  •  Microsoft Office (Microsoft Office XP, 2003, 2007)
    • Free download for TCC students
      • Login to Blackboard
      • Go to Organization tab
      • Search for: software 
      • Click Enroll button and follow on-screen instructions
    • In general, Microsoft WORKS, WordPerfect, Wordpad, and Notepad WILL NOT WORK for submitting assignments.  Please check your instructor's requirements!!
  •  Antivirus software, such as Norton or McAffee
     If you do not want to purchase antivirus software, you may download one from a free web site.
  •  Java (available free from Sun Microsystems)

Streaming Video Requirements
Enrollment Requirements
  •  All students are required to complete the Distance Learning Internet Orientation.
  •  Costs for distance learning courses are the same as on-campus courses.
  •  You must meet any course pre-requisites listed in the catalog.

Class Access
  •  Classes are accessible via the Internet 24 hours a day/7days a week.
  •  You may take a class by accessing the Internet from home, work, or TCC computer lab.
What's Involved in Taking an Internet Class?
  •  Students must complete the Distance Learning Internet Orientation. prior to starting an Internet class.  (Instructors may require an additional course orientation.)
  •  Instruction is provided via the Web, CD-ROM (if applicable), and/or textbook materials.
  •  Assignments are posted on the class web page.
  •  Students upload assignments to the class web site or e-mail the assignments electronically.
  •  Students communicate with instructors/classmates via e-mail,  group-threaded discussion or live chat..
  •  Exams are taken on campus, at an approved testing site, or over the Internet (depending upon the course).
Characteristics of a TCC Internet Class
  •  Study times that are convenient to you.
  •  Individual interaction with the instructor.
