The 2018 Ecofest offers something for everyone in the family from cooking demonstrations to composting and gardening, and alternative energy sources. For 10 years, Tulsa Community College has helped the community learn ecofriendly practices to help protect the environment as well as live a greener and healthier life.

The event is free and will take place 9 a.m. to 3 p.m., Saturday, March 31 on the TCC Northeast Campus, 3727 East Apache Street.

The Repair Café returns this year by popular demand with how-to sessions for areas of home repair and gardening. Six sessions during the day include bike repair, plumbing, electrical, drywall, home security and garden home repair. Plus, you can learn from more than 20 vendors and exhibitors including the Northeast Oklahoma Beekeepers Association, Sustainable Tulsa, and Tulsa Master Gardeners. Hourly presentations will include topics such as Clean Green Home, Composting, Urban Farming and Recycling.

Ecofest is a family-friendly event with live music and activities specifically for children. The EcoKids Zone introduces green concepts to children in an easy-to-understand format with activities to help kids get started from conservation to gardening along with arts & crafts projects utilizing the recycle, reduce and reuse and trash to treasure concepts. In addition, the Tulsa Library Bookmobile, a petting zoo, the OSU Insect Adventure and the Birds of Prey presentations are great children activities.

A special celebration marking Arbor Day will take place at 11 a.m. in front of the Engineering Technology Building on the TCC Northeast Campus. Ecofest organizers, TCC leaders and community representatives will plant a tree donated by Up With Trees. Families will be able to take home free seedlings provided by Up With Trees. In addition, the TCC Corrections Education will be giving away free trees as long as supplies last.

2018 Ecofest is presented by Oklahoma State University Extension Office, Phi Theta Kappa, Public Service of Oklahoma, R&G Family Grocers, Up With Trees, and TCC.
