Admissions to ESL
Students who speak English as a second language and wish to be fully admitted to Tulsa Community College to take credit courses or to pursue a degree or certificate must first fulfill the English proficiency requirement.
One way to meet this requirement is with a TOEFL® score of:
- 61 or higher on the Internet-Based TOEFL® (iBT®)
- 173 or higher on the Computer-Based TOEFL®
- 500 or higher on the Paper-Based TOEFL®
Students wishing to meet the English Proficiency requirement through the Intensive English Program (IEP) must begin with a qualifying TOEFL® score of:
- 48 to 60 on the Internet-Based TOEFL®
- 140 to 172 on the Computer-Based TOEFL®
- 460 to 499 on the Paper-Based TOEFL®
Students in the IEP program must also take and pass all five courses of intensive English during twelve weeks of study. At least two-thirds of these courses must be completed at the advanced level, which are indicated by the name "for Academic Purposes" or "for College". These courses include the following:
- Reading
- Listening
- Writing
- Grammar
- Speaking
