It's better in the Bahamas! Students will develop a cross-cultural perspective on child development, parenting, and early education in a safe location celebrated for its warm turquoise water and white sand beaches. Conquer new challenges, engage authentically with the distinctive culture of the island, and return refreshed and recharged with new professional and life skills!

Course Title: CHLD 2023 Child Development and Parenting - A systems perspective of child development and parenting with an emphasis on the ecological approach. Course will include the study of family proceses, parenting philosophies, styles, and techniques. Assigned field experiences. This course is open to majors and non-majors; no prerequisites required.

The Legal Environment of Small Businesses: A Cross Cultural Comparison (BUSN 2313 is a Pre-Requisite). Six (6) to Sevem (7) days in San Miguel de Allende, Guanajuato. Described by Visit Mexico as "one of the most beautiful cities in Mexico", in 2008 the city was "recognized, along with the Sanctuary of Jesus of Atotonilco, as a World Heritage Site by UNESCO."

TCC Students will mentor and teach children music, dance, theater and art in Chacraseca, Nicaragua, a rural community near Leon. Students will experience the music, culture & history of Nicaragua and have opportunities to work on building projects for this community. No pre-requisite except your passion.

Price: $950 plus airfare (around $800).  Cost covers room, meals, and transportation. Sightseeing excursions may require some additional costs and will be decided upon by the group.

June 13 - 21, 2018 (9 days)

Open to any nursing student or nurse in the community.  We have limited space for this adventure, only 8 seats!  Registration is by permission of instructor only.

Price: $975 plus airfare (approx $600-900) - tuition not included

  • Included: Lodging, 3 daily meals, in country transportation, interpreter expenses, all taxes, tips, and gratuities, trip coordination and leadership
  • Excluded: transfers to and from the Tulsa airport, meals en route to and from Nicaragua, souvenirs, and any unscheduled activities the team decides to add

We will visit the rural area of Chacraseca: the coastal farming of Leon; and the mountain coffee-picking area of Matagalpa. We will visit a variety of health care settings including hospitals, university classrooms, rural clinics, nursing home, and home health visits. We will work and learn with doctors, nurses, and communal health brigades. You will be providing hands-on-care to clients. We will also explore Nicaraguan culture; experience daily life; and have some time for sightseeing (volcano, beach, etc.)

Course Title: NURS 2992 Nursing in Nicaragua: A service learning adventure (This course provides an opportunity to experience a direct relationship with healthcare providers and recipients from various cultural backgrounds in an international setting. The students will travel to Nicaragua, the second poorest country in the western hemisphere, for exposure to theoretical concepts as well as clinical experiences. Our trip will be coordinated by JustHope, a Tulsa based non-profit organization that creates global partnerships between US groups, and Nicaraguan communities.
