What does it mean to be on academic probation?
TCC requires that all students maintain an overall G.P.A. of 2.0 or better to be considered in “Good Academic Standing.” If a student’s G.P.A. falls below a 2.0, that student will be on academic probation the following semester. This probation is a way of warning the student that he/she needs to get his/her G.P.A. above 2.0 and that if he/she continues to make poor grades, the student will be academically suspended.
A student will be on probation as long as…
-The student’s overall G.P.A. is below a 2.0.
Once a student raises his/her overall G.P.A. above a 2.0, he/she will be off of academic probation.
-The student's semester G.P.A. is below a 2.0
If a student, who is on probation, gets below a 2.0 for his/her semester G.P.A., he/she will be suspended.
What does it mean to be on academic notice?
For students who have less than 30 attempted credit hours, there is an additional level of warning for academic standing. If a student’s G.P.A. falls below a 2.0, but not below 1.7 the student will be placed on academic notice. This is to let the student know that his/her G.P.A. needs to come up. If the student's G.P.A. falls below 1.7, or the student earns more than 30 credit hours, the student will then be put on academic probation.
What does it mean to be on academic suspension?
Only a student, who is already on academic probation, can be academically suspended. If a student on probation has a semester G.P.A. that is below 2.0, that student will be academically suspended from the college. The student will have to sit out from TCC for a long semester (spring or fall) before he/she can re-apply to the college to start taking classes again. The following link will explain the reapplication process.
What does it mean to be on academic dismissal?
Academic dismissal is a second academic suspension. So if a student had been suspended once, and then was re-admitted, and then failed to get a semester G.P.A. of at least a 2.0 while still trying to raise his/her overall G.P.A. above a 2.0, that student would be academically suspended a second time. When a student is on academic dismissal, he/she must attend another college and raise his/her overall G.P.A. above a 2.0 before re-applying to TCC again.ShareThis
