Prepare to Meet with an Advisor

Student Responsibilities

·         Students play an active role in the advising process.  Use the Education Planning Guideas a resource.

·         Explore resources for career and educational planning and student success (career, study skills, math and writing labs)

·         Complete My TCC Plan for Success packet prior to meeting with an advisor.

Advisor Responsibilities

·         Assess student needs and discuss academic goals.

·         Discuss TCC Academic Skills Proficiency policy (24 hour rule for AA and AS degree seeking students).

·         Connect the student to available and pertinent resources.

·         Work through the Educational Planning Worksheetwith the student and answer questions.

·         Advise the student on resources and action steps to resolve current challenges.

·         Review curriculum and required courses; explain degree program requirements and prerequisites.

·         Review academic standing and academic progress.

·         Discuss transfer information and planning; how to locate transfer university resources.
