 Dr. Marty Matlock

Marty Matlock
Dr. Matlock received his Ph.D. in Biosystems Engineering from Oklahoma State University in 1996, and is a Professor in the Biological and Agricultural Engineering Department at the University of Arkansas.  He is a registered professional engineer, a Board Certified Environmental Engineer, and a Certified Ecosystem Designer.  He serves as Executive Director of the UA Office for Sustainability and is a Program Director in the Center for Agricultural and Rural Sustainability.  Dr. Matlock has authored or edited three books, more than 30 peer reviewed manuscripts, and has been awarded two US patents and five international patents.

The focus of Dr. Matlock’s research has been on metrics that inform practices in design.  The goal of this work has been to increase the resilience and effectiveness of human-dominated including urban, agricultural, and rural systems.  This work has included four multi-year projects focusing on urban and rural ecosystem restoration in collaboration with the UA Community Design Center.  These projects have been recognized by the leading organizations in architecture, landscape architecture, and sustainable design with 22 national and international awards over the past eight years.

He coordinates academic, research, outreach, and facilities efforts in sustainable systems across campus, and has led four international, three national, and two regional sustainability initiatives.   He serves as Chair of the Cherokee Nation Environmental Protection Commission, and as science advisor for sustainability for 12 food and agricultural product companies, including Bayer, Monsanto, Syngenta, Novus, Pioneer-DuPont, Wal-Mart and MARS Corp.

Jared Carlson is a successful entrepreneur who has been dedicating his efforts towards saving the rain forests and staving off the increasing energy demand facing our Nation. To date Jared has been instrumental in preserving 52 million square feet of rain forest and setting in motion the saving of over 80 million  kilowatt hours.  Through developing self-sustaining programs that deliver benefits to the consumer, the Arbor Day Foundation looks to leverage business to effect change in our world.

Founder and Principal of the firm, Joe is responsible for the professional management, design leadership and project execution. With more than thirty-five years involved in Landscape Architecture and Site Planning, Joe has established a reputation for his innovative approach to projects, out-standing design skills, unique graphic capabilities, and communication skills.  He has designed and managed a great number of complex land projects ranging from academic and cultural facilities to large-scale commercial entities and institutional sites.  Joe's extensive experience has been recognized locally and nationally, and spans a broad range of project types, budgets, and solutions.
