Exhibit: I AM
This exhibit features work from 30 members of the Center for Individuals with Physical Challenges. It seeks to challenge the perception of individuals who live with disabilities.
Before creating the pieces, members were presented with two questions:
- Based on your experience, how does the community perceive you?
- How do you see yourself?
From those questions, two lists emerged:
- Contagious, Weak, Slow, Invisible, Unable, Retarded
- Able, Strong, Resilient, Independent, Brave, Patient, Human, Smart, Whole, Survivor, Patient
Members then embodied their empowering word and painted themselves as superheroes.
