Writing Beyond the Self
TCC Engaged Learning presents Writing Beyond the Self, a poetry reading by Fulbright Scholar Dr. Kendra Reynolds
Dr. Kendra Reynolds is passionate about writing’s ability to inspire change and believes strongly that writing should say something rather than simply creating “art for art’s sake.” Through a reading of her poems, she aims to talk about her poetic process and the stories behind each piece, in order to foreground the inspirations and drives that motivate her writing. Often her poems are derived from personal experiences and memories but she strives to emphasize how the personal is political: individual lives and personal encounters can be used to speak about bigger social, universal or philosophical issues. In this way the individual story becomes part of the collective narrative of society.
Dr. Reynolds is TCC’S 2019-20 Fulbright Scholar-in-Residence from Northern Ireland.
