Last Friday, David Adams, TCC director of student life at the Metro campus, became the latest recipient of the Goody Award.
The Good Job Awards, or “Goodys,” were created by TCC President and CEO Leigh Goodson in 2016 to honor individuals and departments who go beyond job titles and department responsibilities to serve TCC’s mission and students in exemplary fashion.
“As our Metro Campus Director of Student Life, David has been involved in many important initiatives,” says Goodson. “Most importantly, he is an excellent student advocate, a great employee, and contributes to making TCC a place where both students and employees want to be.”
David served on the New Student Orientation Redesign Team and was consistently engaged in the conversation of how to improve NSO. He has volunteered his time and energy to give student success presentations and volunteer in the enrollment labs at almost every session. He has served as a lead in TCC’s enrollment labs, ensuring students are well-served and helps manage the traffic flow as well as ensure all volunteers have what they need to serve students.
“David has the attitude that no job is too big or too small to pitch in and help,” says Eileen Kenney, TCC assistant vice president of enrollment. “When he sees a need, he jumps in and our orientation sessions have been improved through his efforts. It doesn’t seem to matter if it’s a Saturday morning or a Thursday night session, David is there helping support the team. He embodies a student development mindset and both TCC and New Student Orientation have benefitted.”
Adams was surprised by the award on Friday morning when the President and crew showed up unannounced with the award, balloons and cookies for David’s staff.
“It was a great surprise,” says Adams. “It’s pretty spectacular to be included with the other great people who’ve won the award.”
If you know of a TCC employee deserving of consideration for a Goody, you can send a nomination to the President's Assistant, Carrie Bateson. Include the names of your nominee and a description of how they’ve gone above and beyond to reach students and support the College’s mission. Then you'll have to keep an eye out for Goodson; Goodys are given away several times each year, but they aren’t awarded on any set schedule, so there's no way to know when one might come your direction.
