What is Gap Funding?
For eligible students, Tulsa Achieves pays up to 100% of tuition and fees for a maximum of 63 college credit hours. As a gap-funding program, Tulsa Achieves pays any remaining balance after all state, federal and private grant funding have been applied to your account. Apart from books and supplies, there is no cost to the student!
How It Works
After a FAFSA has been successfully submitted and a student’s eligibility for Federal and State grants has been determined, the Financial Aid Department at TCC will disburse financial aid awards accordingly. Following financial aid disbursement, Tulsa Achieves funds are applied according to the following guidelines:
Students Receiving Grant Aid
If a student receives federal or state grants that do not cover the entire cost of attendance, Tulsa Achieves will pay the remaining balance so that the student is able to attend TCC without the cost of tuition and fees.
If a student receives federal or state grants that cover the entire cost of tuition and fees, there is no need for Tulsa Achieves funds to be applied. However, that student remains in the program and must complete all eligibility requirements.
Students Not Receiving Grant Aid
If a student does not receive federal or state grants Tulsa Achieves will pay all tuition and fees so that the student is able to attend TCC without cost, not including books and supplies.
*Students with Partial Tulsa County Residency
For students that did not live in Tulsa County all four years of high school, Tulsa Achieves funds will be applied according to the above guidelines in combination with the following schedule:
- Attended 3 years of high school as a Tulsa County Resident – TA Pays 75% of the student’s balance
- Attended 2 years of high school as a Tulsa County Resident – TA Pays 50% of the student’s balance
- Attended 1 years of high school as a Tulsa County Resident – TA Pays 25% of the student’s balance
Loans and Scholarships
While Tulsa Achieves is designed to encourage students to refrain from incurring the debt of student loans, TA Students may take out student loans and should receive them only after all grant and TA funds have been applied. Student loan refunds will be disbursed from Financial Aid to the students’ TCC Higher One Account.
Depending on the specific guidelines for individual scholarships, these funds may be applied either before or after Tulsa Achieves funds are applied to student accounts. Students should contact TCC’s Financial Aid Department to learn the requirements of specific scholarships.
When are Tulsa Achieves Funds Applied?
Tulsa Achieves funds are not disbursed until after the first month of the semester.
In order to ensure that payments are made correctly to all eligible student accounts, Tulsa Achieves funds are not applied until after the Add/Drop period has passed and student schedules are relatively stable for the semester.
