Benefits of Peer Study Groups and Coaching

Meeting with a Peer Study Group might be right for you if you want to:

  • Meet with students who are studying together to promote common success
  • Follow research-based study approaches that help you study smarter, not harder
  • Meet with accountability partners
  • Meet with students who have similar classes and can provide tips for studying and working smarter
  • Meet with students who will help you partner with TCC lab tutors and faculty to approach studying strategically and use available college resources

Exploring Peer Coach/Mentor Support

Meet with Peer Coaches/Mentors might be right for you if you want to:

  • Visit with students who are experiencing college like you and can point you in the right direction for studying, using college resources, and balancing life
  • Talk about college experiences with other students and network
  • Get connected with college and community resources through other students

Peer Coaches/Mentors are students who help other students as coaches and mentors. They also support students by leading small group study sessions. These Peer Coaches/Mentors work as student employees in the Center for Community & Learning, alongside the Academic Success Coaches. They offer direct support to students to ensure they have a successful experience at TCC.

Peer Coaches/Mentors provide direct support to students and connect with them individually and in groups through office hours, outreach activities on campus, classroom interactions and presentations, and assisting in student activities, such as helping other students with:

  • Adjust to college
  • Navigate college processes
  • Address challenges and barriers to their success
  • Learn tips and tools for academic success (e.g., time management, organizational skills, study skills)
  • Set realistic goals and expectations
  • Develop action plans
  • Effectively communicate with college personnel and faculty
  • Connect to helpful college and community resources

Meet Your Peer Coaches/Mentors

Peer Coaches/Mentors in the Center for Community & Learning serve to support and encourage TCC student success. Peer Coaches/Mentors lead other students through their TCC College Experience and help new students throughout the academic year. Through one-on-one and group meetings (with study group, study strategy, and life balance sessions), Peer Coaches/Mentors will be knowledgeable guides for new students, thoughtful facilitators who provide access to people and resources, and ultimately serve as role models and advocates.
