TCC 50 Notable Alumni

Life’s circumstances and financial need may have forced Linda to delay college after high school, but she would overcome those challenges and become a standout student, earning not one, but two life-changing scholarships.

Considered to be the country’s largest private scholarship, she was the first student from Tulsa Community College to be named a Jack Kent Cooke Undergraduate Transfer Scholar and received, at that time, up to $90,000 to complete her bachelor’s degree. Then, she earned an additional $50,000 for a graduate scholarship from the Jack Kent Cooke Foundation to work on her MBA. She said, “I will be forever grateful for the opportunities and enrichment that TCC and the Jack Kent Cooke Foundation provided to me. I have been able to live a more meaningful life because of my experiences with TCC and JKCF. “

Born in Tulsa, Linda graduated from East Central High School in 1986. A member of the Quapaw tribe, she said, “TCC provided not only an opportunity to begin my career in accounting, but also provided me with the opportunity to participate more in my Native American culture.” Linda was a TCC Honors Scholar and involved in student groups including the Native American Student Alliance and Phi Theta Kappa. She said, “TCC’s Honor’s Program lifted me up and gave me confidence in myself that I could do anything I set my mind to.”

Even now, she remains active in her community and serves as the Commander of Starbase Composite Squadron, Civil Air Patrol, U.S. Air Force Auxiliary.
