Nursing Division
We truly believe that TCC Nursing sets the standard for nursing in our community. TCC Nursing has an excellent and well-deserved reputation in our community. The Nursing Program was established in 1971 by a consortium of Tulsa-area hospitals to provide a college-based nursing program for Tulsa and Northeastern Oklahoma. Since that time, over 3,000 nurses have graduated from TCC Nursing. You will find TCC graduates in all areas of nursing care in our community, not only in hospitals, but also in home health, clinics, chemotherapy centers, surgical care, air ambulances, and anywhere a nurse is needed. TCC Nurses are staff nurses, hospice nurses, clinical nurse specialists, managers, administrators, practitioners, teachers and more! Today, 15% of our nursing faculty began their nursing careers as nursing students at TCC. We’re proud to have them back as leaders for future nurses. Why is TCC such a strong and well-regarded program? First, the foundation of our success and one of our strengths is our faculty. Our faculty members are committed to promoting learning. They are dedicated teachers and committed to our standards of excellence in clinical practice. Our curriculum is another strength of our program. TCC Nursing has been recognized for innovations and breadth of experiences provided to our students. The TCC Nursing curriculum is developed by our faculty with input from our Advisory Board who are nursing leaders in our community. The goal of our curriculum is to blend the appropriate rigor of study with challenging clinical experiences to prepare our graduates to function not only when they first graduate, but for years to come as excellent nurses. Our curriculum is dynamic and under continual evaluation by our faculty to ensure that what we teach will promote your success as a nurse. TCC is one of only eight school throughout the country to conduct research on the use of simulation in nursing. We work closely with our Clinical Partners to ensure that our students learn nursing in a variety of settings so that they will be prepared for practice in the healthcare arena of today and the future. We conduct an annual assessment with our Clinical Partners to ensure that the environment serves our students well and that our students and faculty are providing value to our partners. In our program you will have the opportunity to explore nursing in long-term care facilities, acute care hospitals, emergency settings, client’s homes, public health centers, nursing centers such as the Tulsa Day Center for the Homeless, schools, and other settings. Finally, our students and our graduates are our greatest strengths. You come to us from all walks of life. There is no typical TCC nursing student. Our students range in age from 19 to 64. Many have children. It is not unusual to meet a TCC nursing student who has chosen nursing as a second career. Many of you tell me that nursing always was your dream, but until you came to TCC you never thought you would be able to live your dream. Our students represent a diverse cross-section of the population of Tulsa and Northeastern Oklahoma. Additionally, many international students have sought TCC as a resource to learn nursing. Some will return to their home countries while others look forward to practicing in the United States. You, our students, will be the future nursing leaders in our community. Welcome to TCC Nursing. Please take time to explore this website. We hope it will answer your questions about how to get started in your nursing career and what is offered at TCC for you. As you explore these pages, I am sure you will agree with me that The future of caring is TCC Nursing.
