Signature Symphony at TCC Dances Across the Continents

Signature Symphony at Tulsa Community College is “Dancing Across the Continents” with an evening of music from composers Antonín Dvořák, Samuel Ekpe Akpabot, and Adolfo Mejía and dancing from members of the Tulsa Ballet and Tulsa Ballet II. The concert is 7:30 p.m., Nov. 12 at the TCC Southeast Campus VanTrease Performing Arts Center for Education at 81st Street and Highway 169.

The 2016 - 2017 World Passport: A Symphonic Excursion” season features music from six continents and countries. “Dancing Across the Continents” concert includes Akpabot’s “Three Nigerian Dances” (Nigeria), Mejía’s “Pequeña Suite” (Colombia), and Dvořák’s “New World Symphony” (Czech Republic). The year-long collaboration with the Tulsa arts community continues with choreography based on Mejía’s Pequeña Suite featuring Tulsa Ballet dancers Minori Sakita and Andrés Figueroa, as well as dancers from Tulsa Ballet II.

As part of the Signature Symphony at TCC music education outreach program, music lovers of all ages are encouraged to attend the Open Rehearsal, 6:30 p.m., Thursday, Nov. 10. The free event is a chance to experience an orchestra rehearsal and hear from Signature Symphony at TCC Music Director Andrés Franco and guest artists.

Single ticket prices start at $12 for a Classics performance and $32 for a Pops performance. Signature Symphony at TCC is offering a Pick-4 season option for any four concert combination from the remaining Pops or Classics performances. Prices start at $48 for a Pick-4. Signature Symphony at TCC, in collaboration with Tulsa-area schools and TCC, operates the Higher Scale Music Outreach Program. The program makes possible music instruction and experiences as part of the traditional school experience for students of all ages as part of our mission to enrich arts in Tulsa. Professional musicians from Signature Symphony teach viola, violin and cello classes to school-age children. The program engages students for up to four consecutive years. In addition, members of the Signature Quartet offer coaching sessions and performances for students in elementary, middle and high schools throughout each school year in Tulsa Public Schools and neighboring school districts.
