Signature Symphony at TCC to Record CD in Front of Live Audience

Who knew recording a CD could make history? But for the Signature Symphony at Tulsa Community College March 9 will be a monumental event as the orchestra will record its first CD in its 35 year history.

“This has been a dream of mine to have the Signature Symphony at TCC record a CD,” said Dr. Barry Epperley, Signature Symphony artistic director and conductor. “We’ve talked about the CD for years and now we are going to make it happen.”

The CD recording will take place during a special live performance at 7 p.m. on Sunday, March 9. The CD, titled “Signature Sound” will capture the diversity of the Signature Symphony with selections ranging from “Amazing Grace” and “Without a Song” to “Bolero.” A number of the selections included in the CD concert will be arrangements by Larry Dalton, who for more than 25 years, served as the Signature Symphony’s resident arranger/composer before his death in 2009.

“Over the years, thousands of Tulsans have attended the Signature Symphony performances and supported the performing arts in the area,” said TCC Dean of Performing Arts Kelly Clark. “This is your chance to be part of history as the Signature Symphony sound is recorded. Signature Symphony wanted to record the CD as a tribute to Epperley who will retire at the end of this performance season.”

Tickets are $10 for the performance and CD recording session, which will take place at the TCC Southeast Campus VanTrease Performing Arts Center for Education (PACE) at 81st and highway 169.
