To help say good-bye to summer and hello to college, the Tulsa Community College Northeast Campus is hosting a Welcome Back Bash 4 p.m. – 6 p.m., Thursday, August 17. The event has free food, music and fun activities. Plus, there will be interactive sessions to explore careers and academic programs and opportunities to meet faculty.

The Welcome Back Bash helps new students with final semester preparations as well as tips on how to have a successful semester and expectations of a college student. New and returning students will be able to meet fellow students, faculty, and take a tour of the campus. Plus, individuals can ask questions about financial aid as well as get help completing the Free Application for Federal Student Aid or FAFSA.

"TCC is the community's college with resources to help students from all backgrounds become college ready," TCC Assistant Vice President for Diversity and Inclusion and Interim Northeast Campus Provost Eunice Tarver said. "Our goal is to make sure all of our neighbors know that we're here to serve and empower them through high-quality and affordable educational opportunities."

Information on scholarships, student organizations and tutoring will be available. One of TCC’s newest student organizations, The National Society of Leadership and Success, focuses on leadership and provides mentorship through nationally recognized speakers. In addition to the networking groups, students work in small groups to set goals and priorities for the year. The national organization awards thousands of dollars in scholarships each year.

The Welcome Back Bash will also showcase academic programs such as EMT/Paramedic, Fire and Emergency Medical Services, and Aviation/Air Traffic Control, Manufacturing, English as a Second Language, and Engineering that are based at Northeast Campus.

"We want to personally invite you to come to campus and fellowship with us. We want to know you. We want you to know us, our faculty, staff, programs, degrees & certificates. Come see how we can help you reach your highest potential," Tarver said.

In addition to academic programs, individuals will be able to explore the TCC Northeast Fitness Center and take part in a fitness class which are open to them as a TCC student. TCC Student Life will provide free hot dogs, chips and drinks.

Veterans who attend will receive free do-it-yourself craft kits, courtesy of the Help Heal Veterans organization. The kits range from wood crafts like birdhouses or clocks to leather purses, wallets, and model cars, trucks, and airplanes. Veterans will need to show an ID that identifies them as a veteran.

The fall 2017 semester begins Monday, August 21 with 16-week, 14-week or 8-week classes available.
