Crediting Tulsa Community College with giving her confidence, Bethany Niman went from just wanting to survive college to thriving in the experience. She is now eyeing graduate school. She earned a Business Administration degree from TCC in Fall 2019 before transferring to Northeastern State University to start her path towards a bachelor’s degree in Psychology.
“The transfer to NSU was smooth,” said Niman. “I had the chance to visit with an NSU representative on different TCC campuses during my final semester. I had also considered going to Langston University, before I made my final decision.”
With multiple options, Niman suggests starting the transfer process early. “You should use the opportunities to visit with representatives from your desired colleges as soon as possible to get your questions and concerns addressed. Then, schedule an appointment to visit the campus. As a first-generation college student, I found many of my mentors were even willing to attend those meetings with me.”
Niman will graduate from NSU in Spring 2021 and started the process of applying for graduate school. “I hope to enter straight into a doctoral program at the University of Arkansas (Experimental) or the University of Tulsa (Clinical). I even considered applying to schools like Columbia and Brown. TCC prepped me well and taught me I am a valued student who can build success through education.”
