Day of Vision Helps Students Prepare for College

Day of Vision, the award-winning, college preparation program will take place 8:30 a.m. – 1 p.m., Saturday, Nov. 7 at TCC West Campus, 7505 W. 41st Street. This event is nationally recognized for its effectiveness in motivating students to attend college and helps both parents and students prepare for college.
The half-day event is free and offers students and parents valuable information. Participants will attend sessions to familiarize them with college life and career options, explore funding opportunities to pay for college, and learn about Tulsa Achieves as well as the essential skills for college success. Any high school student is invited to attend and the event is a great opportunity for students in 9th – 11th grades to begin the discussion about attending college following high school.
One of the important topics discussed is how to pay for college with a session designed to help parents navigate the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA), the federal form required to receive any form of financial aid at a postsecondary institution. A report released this week by ImpactTulsa shows only 53 percent of the 2014 graduating class in the Tulsa area completed FAFSA forms.
"Day of Vision outlines for students and parents what it takes to prepare for and succeed in college as well as the steps it takes to get the process started,” said Rebecca Marks-Jimerson, TCC Diverse Student Outreach Coordinator. “In addition, we have added a session for parents who may be interested in a career change or attending college."
