The Tulsa Children’s Summer Theatre at Tulsa Community College announces the 2014 summer production of Disney’s “The Little Mermaid, Jr.” The Tulsa Children’s Summer Theatre offers free opportunities for children in the Tulsa area, between the ages of 5 to 14, to experience the arts and use their imagination and creativity.

“There is something magical about a child getting to sing and act on stage and there are so many benefits to help them develop as young adults,” said Tulsa Children’s Summer Theatre Director Mark Frank. “We let the children explore their creative minds on stage, learn movement and characterization and have seen terrific results as children flourish and gain self-confidence.”

The Tulsa Children’s Summer Theatre is about providing a free educational environment for children to broaden their experiences while kids are out of school. There is no cost for children who want to be part of the summer musical production. There are more than 40 children involved in the cast of Disney’s “The Little Mermaid, Jr.” out of the 81 that auditioned.

“The children get to work with others, learn music and lines and be a part of a fun production that shows them what can be accomplished,” said Frank, who brought Tulsa Children’s Summer Theatre to TCC when he joined the faculty in 2013. Overseeing the summer production is Frank as director, Laura Cowen as musical director, Lawrence Alford as technical director and Jacob Bush as stage manager.

Performances are 7 p.m. July 30 – August 2 and 2 p.m. August 3 at TCC Southeast Campus VanTrease Performing Arts Center for Education. Tickets are $10 with all the money raised going to TCC Theatre Department scholarships.

Tickets for Disney’s “The Little Mermaid, Jr.” can be purchased at the VanTrease PACE Box Office or by calling (918) 595-7777.
