President’s Leadership Institute

The President's Leadership Institute (PLI) is a one‐year professional development that meets monthly throughout the academic year. Full‐day sessions are provided by TCC Cabinet members and community leaders. The Institute agenda also includes an all-day retreat, campus visits, and an opportunity to attend Higher Education Day at the Capitol. In addition to attending monthly sessions, participants will complete an Individual Leadership Action Plan and work on a team project designed to provide practical and realistic solutions tied to College goals for the current year.
Eligibility
Full-time employees who have worked at TCC for at least one year are eligible to apply. Applicants who previously applied but were not accepted into a previous cohort are encouraged to apply again. Our goal is to include a diverse group of participants in the President’s Leadership Institute representing each campus, multiple teaching disciplines, and staff from a wide range of programs, offices, and departments. Those selected are expected to commit to attending all sessions.
Application and Support Statement
Please advise your supervisor if you are planning to submit an application and request that they complete the Support Statement. Both the Candidate Application and Supervisor Support Statement must be received by the deadline, and as a candidate, it is your responsibility to follow up with your supervisor as necessary.
Please direct questions to Bill Ivy at william.ivy@tulsacc.edu or 405-642-3614.
Thank you for your interest in participating.
About President’s Leadership Institute
Summary
Several years ago, a national survey of community college instructional leaders identified the top 10 skills necessary for effective college leadership. TCC’s President’s Leadership Institute prepares the College’s own staff for leadership responsibilities by providing participants with those skills and the perspectives hiring committees seek in candidates for leadership positions.
The President’s Leadership Institute is the internal tool the College uses to build the talent and drive already within its ranks into a pool of future leaders. The experiences of working and learning together in the institute build camaraderie and strengthen ties across departments, helping TCC to discover new opportunities and creative ways to serve students.
Purpose
The institute is designed to build collaborative skills, offer greater insight into the College’s operations, services and programs, and influence the next generation of leaders to serve TCC students, the greater Tulsa community, and the vision of education nationwide. Selection to the institute is by application, and is open to all full-time TCC faculty and staff members, in all ranks, levels, and departments.
Delivery Methods and Format
Those selected will be required to review case studies before each session and be prepared to discuss their application to TCC. In addition, each class will feature an executive guest speaker from within the College, the community, or our higher education partners to discuss issues and situations facing the College or on the strategic horizon. Sessions will meet on the third Friday of each month, from 8:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. The President’s Leadership Institute will select a new cohort each year, and each cohort will be limited to 20-25 applicants.
