College for Kids

Every summer there are more than 50 different camp selections offered through College for Kids at TCC. Offerings include World Languages, Gaming & Coding, Arts & Literature, and STEM. TCC Summer STEM Academy

June 11-16, 2023

Life is a rollercoaster! This academy is a 6-day, 5-night residential experience open to students entering grades 9-12. It provides students with hands-on experience in theories for designing and constructing rollercoasters.

  • Students collect data for analysis
  • Calculate forces on a rider, including work and power necessary to move cars
  • Calculate centripetal acceleration and forces
  • Use conservation of energy to approximate velocities and altitudes, and rotational motion equations to determine linear speed

Students will design, build, and test rollercoasters using these concepts, including computer simulations, 3D printing, and hand tools, with final presentations including a social media STEM Challenge. The camp culminates in a day at Frontier City, riding rollercoasters.

College for Kids is over 25 years old and will challenge your kids in a variety of different ways whether it's an Arts camp like Filmmaking or Stay Gold, or one of our dozens of Gaming and Coding options. Or do they want something more practical like learning a different language? We offer Chinese, Japanese, French, and American Sign Language. Or do they want to become certified in emergency response? Then try our "Survive the Zombie Apocalypse". Whatever fascinates them, TCC will have a summer camp for them!
