Student Wellness Advisory Board (SWAB)

Students on the Student Wellness Advisory Board (SWAB) will work closely with the Wellness Services Department. They will provide feedback from a student’s perspective as well as advocate for the health and wellness of all TCC students.

Students should be interested in the following:

  • Furthering their leadership skills
  • Their own health and wellness
  • Committed to improving the health and wellness of the TCC community


The Student Wellness Advisory Board meets once a month during the Fall and Spring semester.


  • Students gain the opportunity to collaborate with their peers and Wellness Services
  • Students obtain experience that will help strengthen interpersonal skills and build their resumes
  • Students receive a letter of involvement that will explain and highlight participation
  • Students will also receive volunteer hours

Wellness Advocates

This is a long term volunteer opportunity with Wellness Services. Apply to be a Wellness Advocate.

Wellness Advocates will:

  • educate the TCC community about Wellness Services
  • assist in health education programs
  • help raise awareness of timely wellness issues in our community
  • provide information, resources, and referrals to students, faculty and staff
  • be an active participant on the Student Wellness Advisory Board
  • other duties as assigned


  • have a voice in student health and wellness
  • receive volunteer hours
  • develop leadership skills, presentation skills and shadow Wellness staff
  • increase your knowledge of mental health, community organizations, education, and programming.
  • Involvement letter from staff showing your participation

Peer Health Education Program Scholarship

The primary role of a Peer Health Educator is to develop and implement health education and awareness programs with the goal of improving the long-term healthy behaviors of TCC students. Health education topics include stress management, healthy sleep habits, mental health, sexual health, alcohol and drug prevention, suicide prevention, healthy relationships and more. Peer Health Educators will go into classes, student group meetings and more to extend their reach across the college.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Current TCC student
  • Must have and maintain at least a 2.2 GPA
  • Interested in health and wellness
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team
  • Ability to multi-task and prioritize workload
  • Must be in good conduct standing with TCC
  • Support the goals, expectations, and mission of Wellness Services and Tulsa Community College
  • Be able to commit approximately 3 hours per week

Scholarship Amount: $1,000 to be awarded at the end of the Fall and Spring Semester.

The Active Minds Chapter

The Active Minds Chapter is a powerful force in the mental health movement. Students work to increase mental health awareness on campus, promote positive mental health, educate their peers about the signs and symptoms of mental health disorders, and encourage students to reach out for help when needed. Chapters play an important role in referring students to resources and starting conversations about this important topic.

Many members are students with an interest in mental health, such as psychology, nursing, pre-med, and social work. Some students are living with a mental health issue, including depression, bipolar disorder, anxiety, or an eating disorder. Others are friends or family of people who live with an issue or are survivors of a friend or family member’s suicide.

The Active Minds Chapter is open to any enrolled student.
